The San Domenico Stakes Day took to Sydney’s premier Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday with two feature races lined up for horse racing fans and punters around Australia.

The first big event of the day was the $125,000 Group Three Missile Stakes (1200m) which saw eight top quality horses take to the jump.

Danleigh saw Hugh Bowman in the saddle and together they took the lead from the start and held on bravely.

However Love Conquers All went into the race as the favourite with SportsBet and the four-year-old didn’t fail to deliver, as with 150 metres to go he came from the tail of Danleigh to storm home down the straight and claim an emphatic victory.

The Mossman offspring was simply stunning from barrier two and maintains his unbeaten record at the premier Sydney track.

The second feature, and the headlining race of the day was the $1250, 000 Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1000m).

Solar Charged went into the event as the hot favourite despite drawing the wide barrier nine, but the expectations were too high for the three-year-old.

Ridden by Corey Brown, the Charge Forward filly took the lead from the jump but could not maintain the pace when it came to the home straight.

Obsequious sat just off the pace in second spot for the majority of the race, and with champion hoop Tim Clark in the saddle took it up a level with the finishing line in site to claim a length-and-a-half win against the odds.

So if you would like to follow any of Saturday’s runners throughout their spring campaign, or indeed any spring races, then head to SportsBet for the best prices available online!

Dariana claimed the $125,000 Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) on Saturday when the filly exceeded her pre-race favourite expectations.

Trained by Bart Cummings, who is at St Vincent’s Private Hospital due to an illness, Dariana started slow but came home strong on the last day of the Sydney Racing Carnival.

Trained by Bart Cummings, Dariana started slow but came home strong on the last day of the Sydney Racing Carnival.

Al Dhafra was the favourite heading into the 2010 Frank Packer Plate, but the Guy Walter-trained gelding was disappointing on the Royal Randwick Racecourse and finished fourth and heads to the paddock for a spell.

Euphemism, trained by Peter Snowden finished second by half-a-length while Viking Hero rounded out the top three finishers.

Dariana looks set to travel to Queensland and compete in the Brisbane racing carnival, with the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) on the 5th of June a strong possibility, with two wins from just six races as the filly sets out her first campaign.

Also taking place on Saturday alongside the 2010 Frank Packer Plate was the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m), the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) and the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1600m).

It was a thrilling affair at the Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday as Jessicabeel came from well back to claim the prestigious $400,000 Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m).

The 2010 Sydney Cup headlined the day’s proceedings which culminated the Autumn Racing Carnival, and Craig Newitt certainly had a game plan for the winning John O’Shea-trained mare, settling her back in the field and timing the finish perfectly.

Craig Newitt certainly had a game plan for the winning John O’Shea-trained mare, settling her back in the field and timing the finish perfectly.

It was a fantastic finish which resulted in a mare’s cup quinella, with Divine Rebel three-quarters of a length behind in second – the mare’s second consecutive runner up spot in the event, while Harris Tweed was a further length behind in third.

The triumphant mare started badly, but given her innate ability to stay strong over the long distance, came good when she outstayed the rest of the field after a fabulous turn of foot in the tail end of the race.

Going into the race, Precedence was topping the odds, and while the Bart Cummings-trained gelding started strong and led the field, could not maintain the pace and crossed the line last, while Zavite was another contender and made the same mistake finishing a spot ahead of Precedence.

With such an impressive form over the 3,200 metre race, the most logical path for Jessicabeel will be the 2010 Melbourne Cup

Also taking place on Saturday alongside the 2010 Sydney Cup was the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), the Group 1 Champagne Stakes and the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m).

Hot Danish, trained by Les Bridge finally claimed her first Group 1 win on Saturday when she took out the 2010 All Aged Stakes.

Forming part of the Sydney Cup Day at the Royal Randwick Racecourse, the $300,000 Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) saw 11 horses compete as the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival came to a close.

Hot Danish led all the way on Saturday, and executed the race perfectly with Tim Clark aboard.

Hot Danish led all the way on Saturday, and executed the race perfectly with Tim Clark aboard, after missing out on the coveted spot at the top level seven times previously.

The classy mare’s prize money is now over the extravagant $1.5million mark, after reaching expectations as she went into the race as favourite.

The top three finishers were all mares and fillies, as females dominated the Randwick track all day, with Melito and Beaded finishing second and third respectively – the latter doing incredibly well in her first Group 1 event.

Danleigh was another favourite with the punters prior to Saturday but after a disappointing run finished in seventh spot, while Mic Mac, trained by Greg Eurell finished in fifth.

Melito and Mic Mac will be travelling to Brisbane for the next part of their season, to compete in the Winter Racing Carnival, with Gerald Ryan eying up the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on the 29th of May for Melito.

Also taking place on Saturday at the Randwick Racecourse was the headlining Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) which saw Jessicabeel clinch the title, the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m).

The prolific Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival draws to a close this Saturday at the Royal Randwick Racecourse, but it goes out with a bang as eight fantastic races form the thrilling Sydney Cup Day – with the $300,000 Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) a certain feature.

Held as the seventh race of the day, 11 top quality horses are due to jump at 4.15pm to battle it out on the track for a share in the prize money, and there are three starters battling it out as the favourite.

At this point in time, Hot Danish is heading into the 2010 All Aged Stakes as the favourite at $3.60.

At this point in time, Hot Danish is heading into the 2010 All Aged Stakes as the favourite at $3.60. Starting from barrier seven, the six-year-old mare won the Canterbury Stakes in March – but recently lost out to fellow starter on Saturday Melito in the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes (1200m) in April.

Despite having the coveted inside barrier, Melito is not a favourite among punters and has slightky longer and more lucrative odds at $6 – and could be a worthy wager.

Mic Mac and Danleigh, starting from barriers nine and 10 respectively are both even in the odds at $4, and may be the closest in form to Hot Danish.

These are the only four horses starting on Saturday to have single digit odds, with Riva San rounding out the market at $151 and starts from barrier three.

Also taking place on Saturday at the Randwick Racecourse will be the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) which headlines the day’s proceedings, the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m), the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) and the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m).

Make sure you keep an eye on the markets for the 2010 All Aged Stakes, as the tight field means the odds are constantly changing – so to place a bet or check out the markets, head to SportsBet now!

This Saturday the highly anticipated Sydney Cup Day will go ahead at the Royal Randwick Racecourse, and sees eight fantastic races form the proceedings headlined by the thrilling $400,000 Group 1 Schweppes Sydney Cup (3200m).

Due to jump at 3.35pm as the sixth race, the 2010 Sydney Cup has drawn 12 top quality stayers for the event with little between eight of the starting line up.

Sitting slightly ahead in the odds at the moment is the Randwick-based Precedence at $6.

Sitting slightly ahead in the odds at the moment is the Randwick-based Precedence at $6.

With Luke Nolan aboard, the four-year-old gelding recently finished fifth in the Chairman’s Handicap (2600m), but despite this disappointing finish is still ahead in the odds of the eventual winner of the race – Jesscicabeel at $6.50.

Starting from barrier 11, Jessicabeel is equal in the odds with the Group 1 The BMW runner up Zavite, with the gelding having won the Auckland Cup over the 3,200 metre distance in March.

No Wine No Song and Moatize are two other contenders to keep an eye on for the 2010 Sydney Cup at equal odds of $7.50.

Winner of the BMW was Littorio, and with the ninth barrier comes into the race with relatively long odds of $8.

As the culminating day of racing at the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, the racing card is one to impress with three other Group 1 races on offer to spectators –the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), the Champagne Stakes (1600m) and the All Aged Stakes (1400m), along with the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1600m).

This Australia Day, Tuesday 26th, the Australian Jockey Club is preparing for a massive day of racing and entertainment as they host their next feature meeting at the Royal Randwick Racecourse.

The big race of the day that will be drawing the crowds and punters is the $100 000 Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m).

A star studded field of nine are engaged in the event, including the Gai Waterhouse-trained Rabbuka and Anthony Cummings’ Zavite.

Six-year-old Rabbuka is coming off a brilliant win ahead of Spinney in the Frank Underwood Cup at Rosehill a fortnight ago. The Giant’s Causeway gelding has drawn barrier five and will be ridden by Blake Shinn who was onboard for his Underwood Cup victory.

Rabbuka is also the top weighted horse in the Australia Day Cup, carrying 59.5kg. His only concern will be the step up in distance to 2400m as he has never won at a distance greater than 2000m in his eight career wins.

Zavite, carrying the second heaviest weight of 59kg, has drawn the far outside barrier nine, the experienced seven-year-old winner of the Group 2 Ajax Stakes will have in-form hoop Glyn Schofield riding him on Tuesday.

Top training team Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes have their five-year-old Zabeel gelding, Rainbow Styling entered in the race. Rainbow Styling will be ridden by Jim Cassidy, has won his past two starts and will start from barrier six.

Currently sitting second on the NSW Metropolitan Trainers Premiership board, leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller will be represented in the Australia Day Cup by his runner Come On Cugat, drawn ideally in barrier three.

The lightweights of the field all carrying 53kg are the Peter Moody-trained Fairygem (br.2), Brave Lancer (br.7), Just Jammin (br.8) and Karim gaining the inside running with barrier one.

The Australia Day Cup will run as race five on the day’s super eight-race programme.

On Wednesday afternoon the Sydney race action continued as the Royal Randwick held their latest meeting, the seven-race programme highlighted by the Festival Of Sydney Handicap (1100m) where Australia’s favourite trainer Bart Cummings secured another win.

The Cummings-trained Griffon made a sensational comeback to the track after being out of action for over a year, claiming victory in what was just his second career start.

Installed as the $3.20 favourite, four-year-old Griffon defeated El Zegri ($20) by an easy three lengths with the Neville Voigt-trained Business Plan just half a head back for third.

Ridden by Glyn Schofield, Griffon had a mediocre start in the 1100m sprint but impressed all when he pulled out a startling burst of acceleration on the home straight to fly home ahead of his rivals.

The $4 second elect, Atomic Force had a disappointing run and only managed to finish seventh.

The son of Flying Spur, Griffon made his debut back in October 2008 when he ran third to the Peter Snowden-trained Pinwheel at Canterbury. Since then he has shown promise but suffered a few problems.

Cummings’ patience looks finally to be paying off however as not only did Griffon win, but he set the course record time in doing so, a blistering 1:02.20.

Griffon is now likely to be aimed at the local Saturday stakes races as Cummings attempts to build up another star.

The next Randwick race meeting is on Australia Day, Tuesday 26th.

This Saturday, January 9, the Royal Randwick Racecourse is set to host its third race meeting of 2010. Although the focus of thoroughbred racing in the country will be at the Gold Coast in Queensland for the coveted Magic Millions Raceday, there are still a range of quality races taking place at Randwick where some of the finest up-and-coming runners are getting experience on the track in anticipation of the upcoming Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Prolific trainer Gai Waterhouse has a few handy gallopers competing at Randwick on Saturday, including her strong stayer Lorne Dancer in the opening race, the Randwick Betting Auditorium Handicap (1600m). Lorne Dancer is currently second favourite at $3.20 behind the John O’Shea-trained Informality at $2.70.

Waterhouse’s other strong chance at the meeting is with three-year-old Kinnersley in race five, the Naturalism Handicap (1600m). Kinnersley is the clear favourite in the betting markets at $3.40 following his sensational win at the same track on New Year’s Day, and will start from barrier four.

Judicial in race two, the Mahogany Handicap (1200m) is the other last-start victor for Waterhouse backing up on Saturday. Judicial is currently second favourite at $3.50 behind the Peter Snowden-trained Killian at $2.50.

Talented jockey Hugh Bowman has picked up the rides for the Waterhouse at Randwick, following the stable’s two other star riders, Nash Rawiller and Blake Shinn, both engaged at the Gold Coast Magic Millions this weekend.

Bowman will also mount two-year-old Spot The Rock in his debut in the Autumn Carnival Package On Sale Now Handicap (1000m) for trainer Tim Martin from barrier one; the Chris Waller-trained Bright Mind in the Eremein Handicap (2000m); Visa Lisa in the Octagonal Handicap (1200m); and Ourbillydakid in the closing race of the day the BIG6 Jackpot Today Handicap.

The Randwick Racecourse gates open at 11:30am and the first race of the eight-event programme is due to commence at 1:10pm.
