August 10th, 2015

Talented colt Sebring Sun has stamped himself as a serious three-year-old contender during the upcoming 2015 Spring Carnival at Randwick over the weekend; producing a monumental turn of foot to take out the Listed Rosebud (1200m) with ease.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Brenton Avdulla settled Sebring Sun within the talented field of eight; allowing the race’s early leaders to set a fair tempo away from the barriers and approaching the bend.

Finding the final straight with plenty to do, Avdulla pushed the classy son of Sebring to the outside of the field, who immediately responded when asked for an extra effort; mustering an impressive turn of foot to hit the line close to two lengths ahead of closest rival Voilier.

Trainer Gary Portelli was at Randwick for Sebring Sun’s impressive performance for success in the 2015 Rosebud and confirmed the colt will progress to the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) before targeting the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).

“I’ve always thought he could step up but you worry when they come up against the better horses,” Portelli said after the race.

“I think he has shown he can and he will have to if he’s going to meet horse like Vancouver in the Golden Rose.

“He will go to the Up And Coming Stakes in three weeks and then to the big race.”

Avdulla delivered a typically polished performance aboard Sebring Sun for success in the 2015 The Rosebud and was quick to lay all the praise on his talented mount.

“He is a lovely horse,” Avdulla said.

“I had to get a bit further back than I wanted and had to time my run, but I was confident and he did what I expected.”

Sebring Sun stamped his claims as one to watch with an impressive performance for second in the TAB Betting Season Plate (1000m) on debut in October; returning this year for third in the TAB Place Multi Plate (1000m) before running fifth in both the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) and Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m).

Punters who backed Sebring Sun to win at Randwick with over the weekend have been paid out on generous $3.10 odds for success!
