Kimberley Star Ready for 2015 The Rosebud

August 4th, 2015

Trainer Gai Waterhouse has experienced notable success in the three-year-old ranks through recent seasons and is confident of early 2015 Spring Carnival success with classy filly Kimberley Star in Saturday’s Listed Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick.

Kimberley Star has appeared on course only seven times competitively to date but has more than stamped her claims as one to watch in posting three wins and as many minor places.

Returning this year for a credible fourth in the Liquidators Plate (1100m) on June 6th, Kimberley Star progressed to third in the McGrath Estate Agents Maiden (1100m) before claiming her three-consecutive wins in the All Too Hard @ Vinery Plate (1300m), TAB Rewards Handicap (1400m) and Yellowtongue Plate (1400m) most recently.

While yet to be trialled at black type level, Waterhouse told The Daily Telegraph she has been thrilled with the Star Witness filly’s recent form and is confident she is ready for a big performance in the 2015 Rosebud.

“I am mindful it is winter form but she is improving with every run,” Waterhouse said.

“She has beaten the boys comprehensively in her last two runs.”

A small but talented field of nine was nominated for the 2015 Rosebud on Monday, including country battler Can Be Bossy; an exciting racing prospect for trainer Mark Macdonald.

Can Be Bossy has contested only two starts so far, but Macdonald is excited to see how the three-year-old reacts to both city racing and black type racing this weekend.

“Time will tell if we’ve thrown him in the deep end too early but other trainers do it and their horses have come out on top,” Macdonald said.

“The plan was to come here race-fit knowing some of the other might be just starting their campaigns.”

Can Be Bossy ran fifth in the Peroni Nastro Azzurro Maiden (1000m) on debut at Kembla Grange on July 14th; taking out the Martelletto @ Rush Park Handicap (1010m) last time out on July 27th.

The 2015 Rosebud final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
