Scissor Kick Takes Out 2014 The Rosebud

August 11th, 2014

Barely expected to figure amongst a classy field of three-year-olds, Scissor Kick has completed an impressive run to win the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday; securing without doubt his biggest victory from three starts so-far.

Jumping from the gates well, the Redoute’s Choice colt settled in prime position on the heels of the early leaders; finding a clear racing line upon reaching the final straight to charge clear and finish close to a length in the green on Better Land and Inkling; favourite Sarajevo running on for fourth.

Focusing his efforts largely on breeding over the last year, trainer Paul Messara was understandably thrilled by Scissor Kick’s performance in The Rosebud and outlined a spring path geared towards Group 1 feature events immediately after the race.

“I’m not going to hand in my (trainer’s) licence and this is one horse who will definitely be staying,” Messara said.

“I think he can go all the way. We will take him to the Run To The Rose, the Golden Rose and the Caulfield Guineas.

“I thought this race might be too short but we wanted to see how he measured up against these horses and he’s done the job.

“The ones who come out and surprise you are often the ones who go on with it.”

In-form jockey Tye Angland delivered a sensational ride on Scissor Kick in the 2014 Rosebud and believes the best is still yet to come from the talented three-year-old this season.

“You won’t see the best of him until he gets up to 1400 metres or a mile,” Angland said after dismounting.

“He is a beautiful horse. From the word go when I got on him he felt great.

“He is collected and well-mannered which is what you want.

“Whatever 1400-metre three-year-old race he goes in, he will win.”

Disappointing when beating just a single runner home in the Australian Turf Club Maiden (1200m) on debut in March, Scissor Kick has returned to racing a new horse this time in, having comfortably won the More Than Ready 2.y.o (1250m) by three lengths prior to huis Rosebud triumph on July 23rd.

Leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best early odds on all major races through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, including the Golden Rose Stakes!

Following his impressive performance in the Rosebud, Scissor Kick has quickly climbed betting lines and now figures as an $11 chance for success on September 13th; sharing the third line with Rosebud second Better Land at Ladbrokes.com.au.
