2014 The Rosebud Betting Preview and Tips

August 8th, 2014

A talented field of just eight runners have been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Royal Randwick, offering punters sensational value from a betting point of view and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

Having so-far contested a perfect race record, Godolphin runner Sarajevo has opened as and maintained status as favourite for success in the 2014 Rosebud, currently offered at a quote of $2.70, ahead of Nayeli ($3.10), Better Land ($7) and Inkling ($7.50).

Will Sarajevo justify favouritism and win the 2014 Rosebud, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Nayeli ($3.10)

Allocated the ideal barrier 2 and confirmed to be partnered by in-from hoop Tommy Berry, all signs seem to point towards a first-up victory for Nayeli in The Rosebud. Debuting with an impressive victory over a talented field which included subsequent Group 1 champion Peggy Jean in the 2014 ATC Membership On Sale Maiden (100m) on January 8th, the More Than Ready filly repeated the dose in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) on February 1st, but had clearly had enough when beating just a single runner home in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd. At current $3.10 odds, Nayeli is more than worth consideration for a wager for success in the 2014 Rosebud.

2nd

Sarajevo ($2.70)

Yet to face off with any of his 2014 Rosebud opponents, Sarajevo has completed several strong barrier trials in the lead-up to Saturday’s feature race for three-year-olds and is more than worth consideration for a wager. Contesting just one start, Sarajevo jumped well, settled in prime position and comfortably charged clear to win the Mossman @ Vinery Handicap (1100m) on April 21st by close to two lengths to more than stamp his claims as one to watch through spring. Likely to receive the run of the race from barrier 3, Sarajevo will be partnered by premiership winning jockey James McDonald.

3rd

Echo Prince ($51)

Offered an exceptionally long odd of $51 for success or $11.10 to run a place in the 2014 Rosebud, Echo Prince has completed just one race for one victory and without doubt offers punters the best value for money of any runner entered. Yet to finish outside the places in four barrier trials, Echo Prince jumped from the gates well, and while suffering an early check, recovered to secure a good win in the Turf Drain Australia Plate (1000m) on July 20th. While definitely stepping up in class to contest The Rosebud, there is nothing to say Echo Prince will not figure in contention on Saturday.
