2014 The Rosebud Betting Update

August 7th, 2014

A talented field of just eight three-year-olds has been confirmed to line up at Royal Randwick this weekend to contest the Listed The Rosebud (1200m), offering punters exceptional value and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

Having started his racing career in the best way possible, Godolphin runner Sarajevo has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success in the 2014 Rosebud, currently available at a quote of $2.70.

Completing two strong barrier trials for third and first before first appearing on course competitively, Sarajevo more than stamped his claims as one to watch through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival when charging home to beat a talented field by close to two lengths in the Mossman @ Vinery Handicap (1100m) on debut on April 21st.

Allocated the favourable barrier 3, trainer John O’Shea is confident Sydney Premiership winning jockey James McDonald will get the best from his runner this weekend, and is more than worth consideration for a bet this weekend at current odds.

While yet to receive much more than a sprinkling of wagers for success in The Rosebud, Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Nayeli has experience competing at the highest level of Australian racing, having contested the featured Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) during autumn, and is also worth consideration for a bet.

Debuting with a comfortable victory over a talented field which included subsequent Group 1 champion Peggy Jean in the ATC Membership On Sale Maiden (1000m) on January 8th, the More Than Ready filly captured the attention of the industry when romping home a near-three length victory in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (100m) on February 1st, however returned to the spelling paddock after failing to fire in the Blue Diamond.

Likely to receive the run of the race from barrier 2, Nayeli has been confirmed to be partnered by in-form hoop Tommy Berry in the 2014 Rosebud.

Interesting sharing the third line of betting for The Rosebud this weekend, Inkling and Better Land can be taken at particularly generous odds of $7 for success, and arguably offer punters the best value for money of any runners confirmed.

Debuting with an impressive victory in the More Than Ready Plate (1100m) in June, Inkling appeared well and truly out of sorts when struggling to maintain and third in his second competitive start, but returned to winning form when taking out the TAB Early Quaddie Handicap (1150m) last time out.

Confirmed for a first-up tilt this time in, Better Land has contested just one race start so far; an impressive three length victory in the Turnbull Plumbing Plate (1100m) on April 6th.
