2014 The Rosebud Final Field and Barrier Draw

August 6th, 2014

An exciting list of just eight three-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for this weekend’s Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Royal Randwick, highlighted by several notable performers in 2014 so far.

A notable performer over events early in the 2014 autumn season, trainer Gai Waterhouse has confirmed Nayeli in the final field for the 2014 The Rosebud.

Charging home to beat a talented field that included Group 1 champion Peggy Jean in the ATC Membership On Sale Maiden (1000m) on debut, Nayeli continued to stamp her claims as one to watch when strolling in to win the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) on February 1st, but returned to the spelling paddock when beating just one runner home in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd.

Pleased with the way the More Than Ready filly has taken to work in the lead-up to her racing returning this weekend, Waterhouse is confident in-form hoop Tommy Berry will get the best from her mount in The Rosebud.

Waterhouse will be offered twice the chance of success in The Rosebud, having also accepted a position in the final field for lightly raced colt Echo Prince.

Performing well in four barrier trials, Echo Prince has appeared competitively on course just once so far; an impressive victory in the Australia Plate (1000m) at Hawkesbury on July 20th.

Allocated the ideal barrier 4, Echo Prince will be offered every chance of continuing his perfect career start through the 2014 The Rosebud with in-form jockey Tim Clark on board.

Geared towards the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 13th, trainers Peter and Paul Snowden have accepted a position in the final field of The Rosebud for Inkling, but revealed they are yet to decide whether or not the three-year-old will run.

Winning the More Than Ready Plate (1100m) by close to six lengths on debut on June 18th, the Duporth colt was lucky to maintain a good enough run to finish third in the TAB Early Quaddie Handicap (1200m) on July 5th, but returned to winning form when taking out a minor over 1150 at Randwick-Kensington last time out.

Allocated a race-high 59kgs, trainer Peter Snowden said he was expecting Inkling would carry around 56kgs in The Rosebud, and may now hold off running the three-year-old until the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) next week.

Also carrying winning form into The Rosebud, trainer David Payne has elected to accept a position in the final field for exciting prospect Bold Circle.

Yet to appear on course in 2014, Bold Circle made two appearance at the beginning of the two-year-old racing season at the conclusion of 2013; finishing third in the Listed NSW Thoroughbred Breeders’ Plate (1000m) on debut before breaking through for a maiden race win when beating a talented field to the line, which included subsequent Magic Millions champion Unencumbered to the line in the Men Of League Plate (1100m) on October 26th.

Deciding to bypass the autumn with a long view towards three-year-old feature events in spring, Payne is confident jockey Jeff Lloyd will get the best from his entrant from the central barrier 5 this weekend.

Darley runner Sarajevo (barrier 3) has also been confirmed in the final field of the 2014 The Rosebud, and will be joined by Scissor Kick (barrier 6), Hero I Am (barrier 1) and Better Land (barrier 8).
