2010 Roman Consul Stakes Preview

September 30th, 2010

The 2010 Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes will run on Saturday as part of the Epsom Handicap Day program, a sprint for 3-year-olds over 1200 metres.

Slater is leading in the early odds, at $2.60 to win on Ladbrokes.com.au. This is set to be the colt’s first Group race run after a dominant 2 length win in the Jeans For Genes Handicap. A game sprinter, Slater is starting from barrier 5.

Next in the Roman Consul Stakes odds is Obsequious at $4.40, starting from barrier 3. While her eighth place performance in her last race is a bit discouraging, a prior Group 3 San Domenico Stakes win proved her mettle.

Buffering is in the Roman Consul Stakes odds at $5.50 to win, and is starting from the dire barrier 9. This young colt’s name seems to have been fitting this season, as he has acted as the buffer between first and third place in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes and the Group 3 Up and Coming Stakes. He would be an easy favourite if it wasn’t for the awful barrier, so be sure to cover him in any box bets you place.
