2010 Epsom Handicap Day

September 30th, 2010

The 2010 Epsom Handicap Day is on this Saturday October 2, featured on Channel 9 as Epsom Super Saturday with 7 Group races on show out of a 10 race card.

Top billing for the day obviously goes to the Group 1 Epsom Handicap, the crowning event of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. Please see our full 2010 Epsom Handicap preview.

The Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes is another major event on 2010 Epsom Handicap Day. It’s a 2000 metre race for three-year-olds with set weight conditions, and you can read more about it in our 2010 Spring Champion Stakes preview.

For the fillies, the Group 1 Flight Stakes will be the highlight of the Epsom Handicap Day schedule. A 1600 metre race for three-year-old fillies raced under set weight conditions, the Flight Stakes has brought attention to such top young females as More Joyous and the fantastic Sunline. Read our full 2010 Flight Stakes preview for more.

The Metropolitan is the last of the Group 1 races on Epsom Handicap Day. As a 2400 metre run under open handicap conditions, it serves as a great indicator race for the upcoming Caulfield Cup. See our 2010 The Metropolitan race preview for more.

Minor races on the Epsom Handicap Day card include the Group 2 ‘The Shorts’, the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, and the Group 3 Craven Plate. If you would like to read about them, please visit our 2010 The Shorts preview, 2010 Roman Consul Stakes preview, and 2010 Craven Plate preview.
