2010 Epsom Handicap Day Full of Great Randwick Races

September 22nd, 2010

The 2010 Epsom Handicap Day at Randwick Racecourse on October 2 will be the highlight of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, with Channel 9 televising the card for free.

The 2010 Epsom Handicap Day is also known as Epsom Super Saturday, and it will feature a massive card of 10 races that includes four Group 1 races, as well as several Group 2s, Group 3s and Listed races.

The jewel in the crown of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival is the featured Group 1 Epsom Handicap. A 1,600 metre race under handicap conditions for 3 year olds and up, the Epsom Handicap tops off the Sydney Carnival in style and gets punters ready for the Melbourne Spring Racing to come.

The Metropolitan is another Group 1 race that is featured on Epsom Handicap Day 2010. The 2,400 metre handicap for 3 year olds and up serves as a preparation race for the upcoming Caulfield Cup.

The Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes is also part of the Epsom Handicap Day card. As a 2,000 metre race for 3 year olds under set weight conditions, this race is great for spotting which of the young colts will go on to be tremendous stayers.

The major event for the fillies on Epsom Handicap Day is the Group 1 Flight Stakes. A 1,600 metre run for 3 year old fillies under set weights, this race often draws the talent that is not aimed at the more lucrative Thousand Guineas held later in the season.

In a card with so many Group 1 races as Epsom Handicap Day, it is easy to ignore the other big events. These include the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes and The Shorts; the Group 3 Craven Plate; and the Listed Angst Stakes, NSW Breeders Plate and the Gimcrack Stakes.
