Chelmsford Stakes Day 2010

August 31st, 2010

Chelmsford Stakes Day is on this Saturday September 4 at Randwick Racecourse, featuring 3 group races.

The feature race for the day is the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes, a Weight-For-Age race over 1600 metres. It is often considered a good lead up race for the Group 1 George Main Stakes three weeks later, as both races are raced over 1600 metres at Randwick.

The Group 2 Furious Stakes will be another major feature of Chelmsford Stakes Day on Saturday. This is a 1400 metre race for 3 year old fillies at set weights, and is considered good preparation for the Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes later in the season.

The last of the Group races on Chelmsford Stakes Day is the Group 3 Tramway Quality Handicap, which is an open handicap for 3 years olds and up, raced over 1400 metres. While this race isn’t usually a good indicator for the rest of the season, the 2009 winner Rangirangdoo did manage to win the Group 2 Crystal Mile as well.

Chelmsford Stakes Day also features the Listed Ming Dynasty Handicap, another 1400 metre race. While it may be overshadowed by the bigger races, the Ming Dynasty Handicap should still be a thrilling affair.
