Randwick Races
The Royal Randwick is considered to be Sydney’s most esteemed racecourse and is home to the Australian Jockey Club (AJC). Each year a range of Australia’s premier thoroughbred races are held at the Randwick during the AJC’s annual autumn and spring carnivals.
The Royal Randwick is located just 5km east of the Sydney CBD and received the addition “Royal” to its name in 1992 by Queen Elizabeth. Racing has taken place at Randwick since 1833 and today over 50 race meetings are conducted at the historic venue every year.
The course boasts numerous tracks including New South Wale’s largest track, the Course Proper. As one of Australia’s most celebrated racing locations it also houses over 650 horses on-site and includes a Bullring and Equine Pool.
Randwick’s premier race is the $1.5million Group 1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) run during the Autumn Carnival. Other important races held at Randwick include the $1.3million AJC Australian Derby (2400m) and the $550 000 Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).
